Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR therapy is designed around a thoughtful eight-phase process that begins with a detailed assessment. Chelsea works with clients to identify specific traumatic memories and prepares them for the journey ahead. Together, they develop coping strategies and resources to help clients feel grounded and secure throughout the sessions.
Created by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR is based on the understanding that trauma can affect how our brains process information, sometimes leading to ongoing emotional discomfort. During EMDR sessions, clients focus on their traumatic memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation through eye movements. This approach helps to lessen the emotional intensity of the memories, making it easier for clients to process and integrate their experiences.
For those interested in a more in-depth exploration of their thoughts and feelings, Chelsea offers EMDR Intensives, starting at 2 hours and extending to 3 hours if clinically appropriate.
